Eight?!

I headed to the farm house after lunch, with my friend Leclii as my 'lifeline' on the other end of my cell phone. Two guys working on the SUV in front of the farm house and another person underneath. I explain again how the Momma dog had been seen hauling the puppies across the creek to their property and they said go ahead and look around. Armed with Leclii in my pocket on speaker-phone, a box and a flashlight...I find a few old buildings and abandoned cars by the creek. One building had fallen flat, one was ready to and the other was standing with the door wide open. As soon as I stepped in, I heard a bark and knew I had found 'em!

It looked like a tobacco or smoke house maybe with low rafters for hanging things, but was filled with stacks of pallets and farm junk. Momma must have slipped out one of the holes in the wall, but I managed to climb, crawl, and pull myself thru the cobwebs to the puppies. Stashed four of them in my box, climbed out, and headed back to my car. Suprisingly, the 3rd person working on their SUV was a girl...she came to see the puppies and helped me snag the others and put in a small crate I'd brought. I was pretty suprised when we went back for the rest of the pups...I'd thought she had 7 puppies when I counted heads and tails, but turns out it was EIGHT!!!! My gosh...what have I gotten myself into!?

Luckily for me, my friend Jenny shows up to help me out for the weekend. We gotta bathe these stinky pups and get them into a feeding routine. So, I have all 8 pups in a huge crate with tons of blankets (better than the red clay bed they've had), two poodles that live with me and two Dobermans that came with Jenny. Should make for an interesting (read that: hectic and hairpulling) weekend.

Check back for photos...maybe I'll manage to get them up tonite between feedings!
